Janine attended law school at Michigan State University DCL College of Law, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2003. While at MSU-DCL, Janine was a Charles H. King Scholar and earned Jurisprudence Achievement Awards in Research & Writing, Property, Tax, Commercial Transactions, State and Local Government Law, and Business Enterprises. Other academic awards include the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company Award, and the Distinguished Alumni and Memorial Scholarship Award. While in law school, Janine participated in two externships with the Michigan Court of Appeals and was a summer associate with Sommers, Schwartz, Silver & Schwartz.

Prior to pursuing her legal career, Janine earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan, following which she enjoyed (ok, endured) a 10-year career as a social worker, specializing in child abuse and neglect issues.

Janine is a member of the Michigan Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States Federal District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
